Educational Toys
56Who said that learning is boring? Learning which can happen in every minute of your kid’s everyday life does not always have to mean long hours of classroom lectures or tedious school lessons and assignments.
Learning can happen while your kid plays with his friends, strolls with you at the park or does something fun and enjoyable. Here are some ideas on how to make learning fun for your little one:
1. Playtime is one of the most effective ways for your kid to learn a vast array of priceless lessons and skills that he will need to thrive as a physically and mentally healthy individual.
Toys that encourage your kid to think, imagine, create and explore are indeed helpful in enhancing his mental capacity. Meanwhile, toys that strengthen his body, improve gross and fine motor skills, and provide healthy exercise are great for his physical health.
It is your prime duty to be able to distinguish toys that are fun and educational from those that are just fun. For example, a modern electronic toy that does everything by itself may seem like an exciting plaything for your little one. But if you think about it, since it does not encourage your kid to think and interact but instead turns him into a passive observer, it cannot be considered as educational at all.
2. Play and bond with your kid. Even if you provide the most educational toys there is, without your proper parental guidance and support, your kid will not be able to maximize his learning. Make playtime a fun bonding time for both of you. Not only will you be able to relax and unwind yourself, you will also be able to make sure that your kid is able to learn everything he needs to know while playing with his toys.
3. Take your kid to museums, galleries, zoos or parks. It is a good idea to take your kid to an educational place of his interest. It is easier to learn when you are doing something that you like. For example, take him to different kinds of zoos if he is fond of animals and wildlife.
However, if he does not like going to a particular place, like to an art gallery for example, do not force him for it will seem like a chore rather than a fun learning experience. Just allow him to learn about art on his own and give him time for his interest on it to grow. After some time, he will be the one who will ask you to take him to an art gallery.
4. Encourage your kid to read. Books are a great source of a wide array of knowledge. If your kid is a bookworm and would not live without a book by his side, you are lucky. But if your kid is one of those who would rather run around the house than flip a page, do not despair. There are many things you can do to encourage your kid to read books such as…
· Provide your kid with books that contain his preferences and interests. If your kid is fond of playing with cars, a book on different automobiles will surely catch his attention.
· Give books that are visually stimulating. Often, kids would rather look at photos and drawings than read words. Because of this, it is important to give books that are rich visually to keep your kid’s interest.
· Set a good example. Read books yourself so your little one will follow suit.
As a parent, it is your responsibility to keep your eyes open for possible learning opportunities that are not only valuable for your kid’s learning but are also fun to do.
